TROUBLE DIAGNOSES — Diagnostic Procedure (Cont'd)

EF & EC-79prose procedure

Diagnostic Procedure (Cont'd)

  1. 7
When measuring supply voltage of E.C.U. controlled components with a circuit tester, separate one tester probe from the other. If the two tester probes accidentally make contact with each other during measurement, the circuit will be shorted, resulting in damage to the power transistor of the control unit.
If the two tester probes accidentally make contact with each other during measurement, the circuit will be shorted, resulting in damage to the power transistor of the control unit.
Illustration showing incorrect (N.G.) method of measuring ECU supply voltage with two tester probes touching each other causing a short at the harness connector for solenoid valve, versus correct (O.K.) method with probes separated using a circuit tester. Components labeled: Battery voltage, Short, Harness connector for solenoid valve, E.C.U., N.G., Solenoid valve, O.K., Circuit tester.
