INSPECTION OF BRAKE DRAG FORCE

Brake drag force inspection

  1. 1
    Swing cylinder body upward.
  2. 2
Make sure that wheel bearing is adjusted properly. Refer to section FA.
  3. 3
    Measure rotating force (F₁).
Spring-scale being pulled tangentially on the rotor edge with caliper swung up to measure rotating force F₁ before pad installation.
    SBR456A
  4. 4
Install caliper with pads to original position.
  5. 5
Depress brake pedal for 5 seconds.
  6. 6
Release brake pedal and rotate disc rotor 10 revolutions.
  7. 7
    Measure rotating force (F₂).
Spring-scale being pulled tangentially on the rotor edge with caliper installed, pads in place, after the brake-pedal pump-and-rotate sequence to measure F₂.
    SBR457A
  8. 8
Calculate brake drag force by subtracting F₁ from F₂. If it is not within specification, check main pins and retainer boots in caliper.
Maximum brake drag force (F₂ - F₁)On-vehicle inspection.
59.8N (6.1 kg, 13.5 lb)
