DISCHARGING, EVACUATING, CHARGING AND CHECKING — Workflow

HA-21flowchart

A/C service workflow — in-service vs new-system paths

1
In service A/C system
2
When it is necessary to replace parts (left) vs not necessary (right)*1
No
Check the spot where refrigerant leaks.
Check the spot where refrigerant leaks. Repair. Add refrigerant. New A/C system Point-2 — Evacuating: Run pump for over 5 minutes.
Yes — replace parts*1
3
Check the spot where malfunction occurs.
4
Point-1 — Discharging
5
Replace parts.
6
New A/C system
7
Point-2 — Evacuating: Run pump for over 5 minutes.
8
Point-3 — Checking airtightness.
N.G.
Point-4 — Repair.
O.K.
9
Point-5 ambient branch*2: Once evacuating (pump > -98.6 kPa, low humidity, clear day) vs Twice evacuating (pump < -98.6 kPa, high humidity, rainy day)
Once evacuating*2
Point-5 — Evacuating: Run pump for over 20 minutes.
Point-5 — Evacuating: Run pump for over 20 minutes. Point-7 — Charging. Checking refrigerant leaks.
Twice evacuating*2
10
Point-6 — Charging: Open high-pressure valve of manifold gauge and charge refrigerant into system. When low-pressure gauge reading is 98 kPa (0.98 bar, 1.0 kg/cm², 14 psi), completely close high-pressure valve of manifold gauge and stop charging.
11
Point-3 — Checking airtightness (after twice-evacuating).
N.G.
same as step 8
O.K.
12
Point-5 — Evacuating: Run pump for over 20 minutes.
13
Point-7 — Charging.
14
Checking refrigerant leaks.

same as step 8
O.K.
15
Check operation of A/C system.
Vacuum pump operating threshold (Once evacuating)Low humidity, clear day.
> -98.6kPa (-986 mbar, -740 mmHg, -29.13 inHg)
Vacuum pump operating threshold (Twice evacuating)High humidity, rainy day — twice-evacuating required.
< -98.6kPa (-986 mbar, -740 mmHg, -29.13 inHg)
Stop-charging low-pressure gauge readingTwice-evacuating Point-6.
98kPa (0.98 bar, 1.0 kg/cm², 14 psi)
Initial evacuation time (Point-2)
> 5minutes
Final evacuation time (Point-5)
> 20minutes
