Tilt mechanism (Jumping tilt only)

Tilt-mechanism setup and check

  1. 1
    Tighten adjusting nut to specification.
    Tilt-mechanism adjusting nut being tightened to spec on the column body.

    After installing steering column, check tilt mechanism operation.
    Tilt-mechanism check after install — column shaft shown at multiple length positions L = 9.8, 19.5, 29.3, 58.2 mm with arrows for jump-up and jumping-up + tilt operation.

Adjust tilt lever (R.H.D. tilt only)

    When tilt lever contacts stopper, tighten adjusting bolt securely.
    Tilt-lever adjustment (R.H.D. only) — lever rotated 90° in direction "P" against stopper to verify smooth operation.

    Turn tilt lever by 90° (θ) in direction "P" to check that steering column moves smoothly without binding.
  3. 3
    Return tilt lever to position θ. Make sure there is no free play (= 0) of steering column when steering wheel is pushed down by force.
  4. 4
    Install lock washer and E-ring.
